GIANTS STUN NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS, 17-14

Monday, February 4th, 2008

Eli Manning drove the Giants 83 yards in a last minute comeback drive to upset the heavily favored, previously unbeaten New England Patriots 17-14 to complete a sweep of the other best teams in football.

The Giants beat the Buccaneers, then upset the Cowboys in Dallas and the Packers in Green Bay to make it to the Super Bowl, where they upset the Patriots.

It was a stingy Giants defense which upset the premier teams in the NFL to shock the football world and win the Super Bowl. This will go down as one of the greatest upsets in all of football history, if not the greatest. Its only rival was the other New York team, the Jets, who upset the heavily favored Baltimore Colts way back in Super Bowl III.

Write On Sports extends its congratulations to the World Champion New York Giants.

By the way, I lost my prediction…..but I DID say the Giants would score 17.

OK…it’s clutching at straws…

Major Trade Makes Lakers a Major Threat

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

When the Lakers traded away Kwame Brown, rookie Javaris Crittenton and two first-round draft picks (and some other tricky little toppings) in order to acquire Pau Gasol from the Memphis Grizzlies, they may have propelled themselves right back into title contention for the first time since the departure of Shaquille O’Neal. The already surprisingly competitive Lakers were previously defeating the top teams in the league, until they came down with a case of the injuries. After losing newly-dominating center Andrew Bynum until at least March, then similarly losing forward Trevor Ariza for the same time period, the Lakers began losing a few games, but holding their own in those games. They lost on Thursday to the strong Detroit Pistons by only one point.

With Gasol now, they will have a 7-foot player of All-Star caliber at center who can pass, rebound and shoot from the outside. The very versatile Lamar Odom is now a little freer to utilize his talents. There is Jordan Farmar, the experienced Derek Fisher, and Luke Walton, along with a few others who can all help Gasol in making the Lakers a contender. And, Oh, by the way, I forgot about one other guy the Lakers have. He can help them out a bit, too. (Kobe Bryant - the best player in basketball.)

This is a good combination of players. The Lakers really have a shot at that Western Conference title if these guys can swing with Kobe and play well together and stay healthy. L.A. fans have a lot to look forward to. Let’s see what the next few weeks will bring for the possibly up and coming Los Angeles Lakers.

What’s your opinion? We’d like to know.

It’s SUPER BOWL Time!

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

Once again, it is time for the Super Bowl. And as I have done the last two years, I like to make a prediction to see how close I can come, or how badly I shall miss.

Most sports people would say this one is a no-brainer. The surprising New York Giants vs. the undefeated New England Patriots.

“Brady and company can’t be beaten.” “Patriots are too powerful.” “Giants haven’t got a chance.” . . . . etc, etc.

But I tend to not agree. I think the Giants DO have a chance. They have the ability to do it. They shocked the other two best teams in football - The Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers (in Green Bay, nonetheless). On any given Sunday, one championship-caliber team can always beat another championship-caliber team.

The Giants stand a chance. They can do it. I just don’t predict that they will.

My feeling is that Brady & his band of undefeated men will complete the sweep and finish up at 19-0. Anything less than that would be a monumental letdown for the Patriots.

The Giants are a good team, granted. But the Patriots are overwhelming favorites. . . . although this sounds frighteningly similar to the time that the powerful Baltimore Colts were overwhelming, 17-point favorites to defeat the surprising New York Jets.

But Eli Manning is no Joe Willie Namath.

MY PREDICTION:

N.E. PATRIOTS: 31     N.Y. GIANTS: 17

Any counter-predictions???

Any comments???

Tell us. We’d like to know.

Getting Back to Writing On Sports

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

Been away from the old Sports Blogging site for awhile. But I haven’t been anywhere.

NO….I wasn’t locked up, nor was I in trouble with the Police or anyone else. In no trouble at all. Just busy with other projects.

So now I’m back… and you will see new entries every now and then.

There’s a lot to talk about in the World of Sports.

Let’s see how the writing goes. . . . . .
